Alfred forced to back down on physio restructure

Home / Member Assistance / Alfred forced to back down on physio restructure

Vigorous intervention by the VHPA has forced The Alfred to retract proposed changes to the physiotherapy service in the Burns Unit.

The proposal would have had a negative impact on long-serving staff in the Unit, possibly leading to a redundancy.

Strong exchanges with management that culminated in the VHPA lodging a dispute with the Fair Work Commission led The Alfred to reconsider its approach.

Heather Cleland, Burns Service Director, issued a ‘Retraction of the Restructure Proposal’ to all staff of the Physiotherapy Department yesterday, stating:

“Due to a reassessment of priorities the proposed change will not be proceeding.”

The VHPA welcomes the result as a positive win for Health Professionals at The Alfred.

“This is an early Christmas present for members at The Alfred,” said Craig McGregor, VHPA Secretary.

“Thanks to the efforts of our Organising and Industrial team they no longer have to worry about the restructure affecting their jobs.”

“It confirms the benefits of expert industrial representation and once again shows the value of VHPA membership.”
