In the second industrial dispute to hit the government on Thursday, more than a thousand key public hospital staff walked off the job.
Allied health workers at Victoria’s public hospitals stopped work for three hours on Thursday after wage negotiations broke down, in a move they acknowledged could disrupt or even cancel elective procedures, scans and treatments.
Victorian Allied Health Professionals Association chief executive Andrew Hewat said their members — which include radiographers, sonographers, occupational therapists, speech pathologists, social workers and several other roles — were left with no choice.
Exemptions were in place to ensure safe care, he said, and staff in key areas including oncology, emergency, obstetrics, and pediatrics did not strike.
