All Allied Health Professionals need Professional Indemnity Insurance. PII is one of those services that you will hopefully never need, but if you do, the VAHPA package will have you covered.
Our policy runs contiguously from 30 September to 30 September each year. And, in the lead up to September each year we review our suite of policies and seek to renegotiate a better deal for you. This year we were able to negotiate a package that sees the limit of earnings from self-employed work move from $45,000 to $100,000. This is set to be significantly beneficial to those AHPs engaged in private contract work outside of their salaried employment. We also negotiate individual packages for those earning over $100,000 from self-employment.
VAHPA’s PII policy meets all the requirements of AHPRA for those in registered professions, including up to $10 million in indemnity cover. Our insurance also includes Public Liability and product cover.
The real benefit of having your PII through VAHPA—besides being a union member and thus playing an active role in improving allied health structures and care across the state—is the advice and industrial support that we provide for you around any issues that might arise from an incident; often this is the most stressful and uncertain part of the whole process. We have an experienced and professional team of advocates ready to help you navigate these trying times.
If you are involved in a workplace incident that could possibly eventuate in litigation you are required to inform your insurer immediately. Again, this again is something we will help you with; contact us as soon as possible and we will immediately send you the relevant documentation for you to complete for our insurance provider. Such matters tend not to progress to litigation however it is vital that you understand your rights and obligations; VAHPA will support you here too. All new members must also disclose known potential issues when joining.
As always, the full details can be found on our website or by contacting the union office.
