Bargaining for a new public sector Agreement has been fairly uneventful… up to this point! On Tuesday however, the vital matter of career structures is up for discussion and, as you will be acutely aware, there is desperate need for renewal in this area.

The VAHPA proposal seeks to overcome a series of problems with the current classification framework including a short and limiting career path, a flat and inequitably applied grade-4, a lack of remuneration for advanced clinicians, limited scope for professional educational and managerial work and a plethora of other issues.

We expect to face significant resistance on the part of the Department of Health and Human Services (DHHS) and the Victorian Hospitals Industrial Association (VHIA) to our proposal. However, we know that we must get our structure up if we are to secure the future of Allied Health in the public sector—in terms of career paths and healthcare outcomes.

VAHPA Organisers are currently in the process of locking down Classification and Wages Presentations (CWP) for all AHPs across the state during February and March. If you’d like an organiser to present at your workplace or are keen to assist with a CWP meeting, let us know asap. Please email info@vahpa.asn.au
