Members have another date to add to their Code Blue event calendar, with a mass meeting scheduled for Thursday 4 August.
Last week saw over 500 allied health professionals across Victoria walk off the job to hear a report back on the progress of bargaining, to debate and determine a way forward for these negotiations, and to demonstrate a fraction of their latent industrial strength.
At that meeting members unanimously endorsed a resolution directing the bargaining team to continue negotiations with the view to achieving a satisfactory agreement within four weeks; should a satisfactory agreement not be reached the resolution called on the union to promptly escalate industrial action.
The purpose of the meeting of 4 August is therefore uncertain at this stage. We remain hopeful that it will be possible to use that meeting to evaluate, debate and potentially endorse an offer that the branch views as being satisfactory. Alternatively, the meeting will signal the start of an intensive period of industrial action.
Members should lock 4 August into their diaries—one way or another we will be holding a mass meeting on this day.
