Delegates are the heart and soul of any union. They are the people who volunteer their time and energy to represent their work colleagues and stand up for what’s right in the workplace.
The rights of workplace Delegates to represent fellow workers and the Union are protected by law. Employers are strongly prohibited from taking adverse action against an employee because they exercise their rights at work.
Delegates act as a first port of call for members with workplace concerns or issues that need to be fed into an Enterprise Agreement or other campaign. Where Delegates cannot deal with the issue independently they refer members to the designated Union Organiser.
The VHPA’s inaugural Delegate Training program is well underway with the first session to focus on Community Health Delegates set for 10am to 2pm Saturday 10 August. Further sessions are currently also being booked.
