The Union is keen to encourage as many members as possible to pay their Union dues by direct debit.
Traditionally, members have been able to pay their dues in a variety of ways. However, as you are no doubt aware, we are keen to run the Union in the most cost effective way possible. Direct Debit is the most efficient and economical means of collecting Union dues. We do not want staff processing payments when they should be out there campaigning and dealing with members’ concerns.
We are recommending that all members sign up to a monthly or fortnightly direct debit, either from a credit card or nominated bank account. A monthly or fortnightly direct debit has the advantage of giving members complete control of when and how fees are deducted, as well as ensuring financial status. Monthly fees are deducted on the first of every month (or the first business day thereafter), and fortnightly fees are deducted on the day of members’ choice (so that members can align deductions with pay dates).
For those members who are already on fortnightly bank deductions, you may have noticed that your regular deduction has not been taken from your account. This issue will be rectified over the coming period. Please contact us immediately if you have any concerns with this.
Of course under normal circumstances the Union will only use direct debit authorities from members to debit regular fees, unless we are specifically instructed by you (in writing) to debit your account additional amounts outstanding for overdue subscriptions.
A direct debit authority form can be downloaded here.
If you have any questions or concerns about this, please do not hesitate to contact the Union office on (03) 9341 3390.
We apologise for any inconvenience caused and thank you for your support.
