VAHPA Executive Officer Andrew Hewat was interviewed today by ABC Radio regarding the more than five hundred vacancies in health jobs across Shepparton and the Goulburn Valley regional centres.
As per the article:
It’s not just doctors and nurses who are in demand in Shepparton and the Goulburn Valley, positions like radiographers and physiotherapists are also wanted.
Andrew commented that “we are very concerned it is an acute situation that is only going to get worse”. He added “they really need the resources to be able to do their jobs properly, and I have great concerns that is not happening at the moment”.
A specific example was then provided: “Vacancies such as mammography, and we know that service in particular is struggling to get enough staff to maintain it and that can have an impact on people waiting to get their scans done”.
“The morale is low, lowest they have ever seen”.
