VAHPA audited General Purpose Finance Report now available to members.
The 2015 – 16 financial year has been another successful one for VAHPA. Our surplus for the year was $64,016; we improved our equity position, now $462,440, up from $398,424 in the previous financial year, and our income from membership subscriptions increased by $244,411 to $2,045,803. This was driven in large part by the fact that we grew by 597 members during the period.
This fantastic result was achieved in spite of the fact that significant resources were directed into the successful Code Blue campaign—the largest campaign in the history of the branch.
The slow but continual improvement in our financial position is starting to give us the space to take a proactive stance on those issues that are important to all workers in this country including of course healthcare workers. We have for example recently employed a researcher and a new organiser. We were able to support progressive VAHPA member, Alex Bhathal, in her campaign for the federal seat of Batman. And we were able to start playing an active role within the Australian Council of Trade Unions (ACTU) and the Victorian Trades Hall Council (VTHC).
These outcomes are vital to our ongoing success. VAHPA must be able to deliver for the members in their places of work and on the policy and legislative level. We are working hard to position ourselves to ensure that Allied Health Professionals have a voice and can wield genuine power with regards to healthcare policy and structures over the coming decades.
VAHPA encourages all members to take the time to properly examine the report (use the link or login to your member portal directly). This is an important part of being a member of our community.
