ANOTHER employer, the Red Cross, has advised they will no longer support payroll deductions of union fees for their employees.

If you are one of the VHPA Red Cross members affected by this change that takes place on 1 September you would have received an email from us advising that it is important you maintain continuity of VHPA membership. Otherwise you risk missing out on the benefits of being a member, including Professional Indemnity Insurance.

And, even if you are not at the Red Cross, you should think about switching to Direct Debit so your employer is no longer involved in paying your Union fees.

There was a famous situation of Jeff Kennett directing the public service to cease all payroll deductions for union fees after he became Victorian Premier. It took public sector unions years to fix the mess created by the sudden change and severely disadvantaged their ability to resist Kennett’s cuts to jobs and services.

To ensure the VHPA remains a viable and strong Union, we strongly encourage members to use Direct Debit to make regular payments from your bank account.

Part-time fee reminder

Don’t forget that you can save up to 50% of your Union fees if you are a part-time Health Professional.

Please note that the part-time rate is not applied automatically to your fees, so make sure you get in touch with us as early as possible to start saving on your membership fees.
